Designing Your Customer Model

Your customer model is made up of the set of demographics you choose to record for each customer. These fields are available over the API and optionally searchable (learn more by reading our API Documentation on customer demographics), in the Clutch segmentation tool and as merge variables in email, text or direct mail communications.

The following basic fields are included by default:

  • First name
  • Last name
  • Email
  • Address
  • City
  • State
  • Zip
  • Country
  • Phone number
  • Mobile phone number
  • Birthday
  • Gender

You may choose to add additional fields to your customer model. These fields can be choice based or string based. Choice based fields can be used to segment customers in the Clutch segmentation tool but are not searchable over the API. String based fields are searchable over the API but can not be used in the segmentation tool. In the Clutch Member Portal, these fields will be displayed to the customer as part of their Customer Profile. It’s possible to build a campaign around the customer profile and offer incentives (points, rewards) to your customers for completing it. Some examples of additional fields are:

  • Household income
  • Number of children
  • Favorite shopping category (eg. mens, womens, kids)
  • Hobbies
  • Favorite football team
